    Honey Bee Biology and Ecology

We attempt to understand wild honey bee ecology and genetic diversity/structure in an effort to sustain honey bee populations. We are keenly interested in the health of honey bee populations where they are endemic. We are focused on understanding nest ecology, ecosystem contributions, natural history, and biodiversity of wild honey bees.

    Current Projects

    • Methods for identifying races of honey bees: genome sequencing, microsatellites, morphometrics
    • Colony natural history: colony density and nesting habits
    • Interactions between honey bees and other species

    Guide to HBREL Research

Honey bee biology and ecology concerns research on wild honey bees where they are native. We also have two other major research themes in our laboratory. Be sure to check those out when you finish browsing this page.
