Turfgrass
Turfgrasses are pervasive across Florida, arguably the most widespread managed plant type in the state. Largely produced on sod farms, turfgrasses are the vegetation of residential lawns, athletic fields, golf courses, roadsides, parks, and many public green spaces. Florida has the largest turfgrass industry in the U.S., generating over $14B in annual revenue and employing over 146,000 people based on 2019 estimates. As such, the pasture mealybug presents a major economic and environmental threat to Florida, challenging turfgrass production and management efforts.
