University of Florida Resources
In addition to excellent resources and information available through our local county extension offices, UF/IFAS has outstanding resource and information at the following websites.
Pest Management University (PMU) is a cooperative effort between UF/IFAS, the Florida pest management industry, and the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (FDACS). Their goal is to both teach and demonstrate all aspects of home and commercial pest control, providing trainees with both improved knowledge and practical experience.
Distance Diagnostic and Identification System (DDIS) has been developed by extension agents, specialists and faculty of UF/IFAS Information Technology. It is used by first detectors, extension specialists, and diagnosticians to help identify plant diseases, insects, weeds, invasive species, plant management, physiology, and nutrient problems.
Insect ID Lab is the regional arthropod identification lab for the Southern Plant Diagnostic Network (SPDN) to identify arthropods from samples that have been submitted through them. The lab also works with county faculty, industry, and the public to help identify arthrpods of concern.
Dr. Lance Osborne's Entomology and Integrated Pest Management for Foliage Plants website provides up-to-date management information on current and emerging pest management topics in the floriculture industry. Current topics include: whiteflies, thrips, mites, and the European pepper moth.
Dr. Catharine Mannion'sTropical Ornamental Entomology website provides fact sheets, research updates, and other information regarding ongoing research and extension activities in Dr. Mannion's laboratory at the Tropical Research and Education Center in Homestead, FL.
Southern Plant Diagnostic Network (SPDN) is part of the National Plant Diagnostic Network (NPDN). The mission of the network is to enhance national agricultural security by quickly detecting introduced pests and pathogens. This is achieved through a nationwide network of public agricultural institutions that work together to detect biological pests and pathogens in our agricultural and natural ecosystems and to communicate their findings to the appropriate state and federal agencies.
The Electronic Data Information Source (EDIS) of UF/IFAS is a repository of all current UF/IFAS numbered peer-reviewed publications on pests and pathogens.
Featured Creatures provides in-depth profiles of insects, nematodes, arachnids and other organisms. The site is a cooperative venture of the University of Florida's Department of Entomology and Nematology and the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services' Division of Plant Industry.
