Bald cypress scale

Diaspidiotus taxodii (Ferris)

(Insecta: Hemiptera: Diaspididae)

Bald cypress scale is a specialist pest of Taxodium ascendens and Taxodium distichum (Cupressaceae).

The scale of the female is flat and round in shape and grey or white with a yellow or dark orange center. It usually is associated with bark, but occasionally it can be found on foliage.

To date, information on its life cycle is not available.

In the United States, bald cypress scale is found in Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Maryland, District of Columbia, Pennsylvania, and Texas.
