05/19/03 - An exotic aphid from Asia found in Florida on Ficus sp.

In March 2003, an exotic aphid from Asia was found in Florida on Ficus sp.

The aphid is Greenidea ficicola Takahashi, Family Aphididae. Species identification by Susan Halbert (Division of Plant Industry). Photographs are by Lyle J. Buss, UF/IFAS Entomology and Nematology Department.

One of the identifying characteristics of the group that this aphid is part of are long siphunculi (cornicles), which are the tubular structures on each side of the abdominal tergum V or VI.
