Megacephala : (mega-KEFF-al-a) A genus of tiger beetles. Adults of Megacephala species in North America and South America are generalist feeders which include mole crickets in their diet. They have large eyes, long legs, and sickle-shaped jaws, and they move about rapidly on the soil surface. The larvae also are predatory, but they live in vertical burrows from whch they grab and eat insects which are passing by.
