Alexis Zapata is currently a Research Associate and a Sponsored Project Consultant with Liburd Lab. She is working on studying the management of Flatheaded Borers in organic blueberry plants. She was born in the Bronx in NY but has lived in Florida a lot of her life, primarily Orlando and Clermont. She received her Associates Degree at Valencia College and her Bachelor's of Science in Wildlife Ecology at UF. Her research involves the study of negative impacts Flatheaded Borers have on organic blueberry plants and mitigating these issues using various organic pesticides. She works on a family owned organic blueberry farm where she collaborates with the farmers, as well as, the university to find novel and cost-effective methods of monitoring and managing Flatheaded borer damage.
