four-spotted tree cricket
Oecanthus quadripunctatus

Mating pair: female, with spermatophore attached, is feeding at the metanotal glands of the male. Jerseydale Campground, Mariposa County, California. Photograph by Jeff Cole, Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County, used by permission.

Note: During postcopulatory feeding, the male's wings are typically held perpendicular to the body axis (see previous image); however, the best photograph of this mating pair caught the male in a less usual pose.
