Mediterranean katydid

Phaneroptera nana

distribution map for Phaneroptera nana
Computer-generated distribution map, produced in 2003 from records in a database available on this site.

This computer-generated map has the outlines of all U.S. counties. Where the counties are small (in the Great Plains and East) distribution can be mapped on it with an accuracy sufficient for SINA. In the West, however, the counties are often too large to map records with "SINA sufficient" accuracy. This is illustrated by Los Angeles County, the largest green area on the above map. Most of its area is desert which is totally unsuitable for Mediterranean katydids. Furthermore, there is a tiny green dot beneath Los Angeles where the Channel Islands National Park has a population of Mediterranean katydids.
