Song: Weissman and Gray (2019) described the song as a slow chirp, 3-5 pulses per chirp, 90-150 chirps per minute. Pulse rate 18-25 at 25°C.
Identification: A key to the adult males of native US Gryllus is in Weissman and Gray (2019).

Habitat: Lives in leaf litter; found in most sky island woodlands above 1250 m. Associated with oaks, pines, and junipers. Also in riparian situations with ash and sycamores.
Life cycle: No egg diapause. One generation per year.
Season: In late spring, early summer, adult population present with damaged cerci (indicating they've been alive for awhile).
Name derivation: "Montis" = "of the mountains"; to reflect where this complex is found.
