• Insect vectors of plant disease agents including prokaryotes, viruses and bacteria-like organisms; Vector-pathogen-host relationships; ecology and control of vector borne plant diseases.

Extension Responsibilities

• Answering calls from the vegetable and nursery growers in south Florida.

4. Accomplishments:

• Determined the nucleotide sequences of RNA spp. of maize stripe virus and their roles in virus replication and infection in insect and plant hosts; studied the relationship between maize stripe virus and other members of tenuivirus group; Developed DNA probes PCR assays for detection of such plant mycoplasmal diseases as maize bushy stunt, pigeonpea withches' broom and cocunut lethal yellowing.
