Dr. Jennifer Gillett-Kaufman

Extension Scientist
Integrated Pest Management, Olives

Dr. Jennifer Gillett-Kaufman has been involved in research, teaching and Extension on integrated pest management for over 20 years. She supports the utilization and development of educational material for state and county Extension faculty and agricultural clientele. She is the Featured Creatures project coordinator and editor. Responsible for teaching Insect Vectors of Plant Pathogens, and co-teaching Grant Writing and Feast or Famine in Florence. She is a Co-Director of the UF in Florence Global Perspectives Program, one of the largest study abroad programs at UF. She is the Chair of the UF/IFAS International Programs Advisory Team

  • Research

    Dr. Gillett-Kaufman conducts applied research on olive pest management. Her student’s research projects are driven by her students interests and include (but are not limited to) work on biological control of hydrilla, native pollinator abundance, orchid pollination, and pesticide impacts on monarch butterfly larval development. All of her students work to develop research based answers that meet the needs of Florida citizens.

  • Teaching

    Dr. Gillett-Kaufman has a 20% teaching appointment. She is responsible for teaching Insect Vectors of Plant Pathogens (ENY5405), and co-teaching Grant Writing (ALS 6046) with Dr. Jaret Daniels and Feast or Famine in Florence (ALS4404) a study abroad course with Dr. Phil Kaufman. She is a Co-Director of the UF in Florence Global Perspectives Program, one of the largest study abroad programs at UF. Her teaching goals are not limited to the classroom. Dr. Gillett-Kaufman believes that in every interaction we have with students, we have an opportunity to teach. She feels strongly about providing a positive direction for each student in her courses and for students who are actively working with her program.  She also understands how students can learn differently based on social and developmental factors. She uses this understanding to foster student success.  

  • Extension

    Dr. Gillett-Kaufman is the Featured Creatures project coordinator and editor. She supports the utilization and development of online educational material for state and county Extension faculty and agricultural and urban clientele. She promotes Extension and research programs for the UF/IFAS Olive Team in state, regional, national and international settings.
